Located in Vosloorus - the Thele Mogoerane Doctors’ and Nurses’ accommodation, training centre and gym links, via a pedestrian bridge, to the existing Thele Mogoerane Hospital across the road.
The brief from the client (Gauteng Department of Infrastructure and Development), was to create a low maintenance and water-wise landscape which meets the needs of the end users. Various level challenges necessitated the need for gabion walls for soil retention in the veldgrass areas. The planting palette consists of fully indigenous and water wise plants, trees and veldgrasses with various aloe species providing a winter flower in and amongst the veldgrass areas.
A jogging trail was incorporated around the entire development which allows the user to enjoy a run or stroll around the landscape taking in the fully indigenous plants and trees.
Also incorporated into the design is a children’s play area attached to the nursery and Crèche which facilitates the children of the hospital staff.
The landscape is irrigated through the use of harvested rain water which is stored in tanks below the ground.
